Working together with Conservative councillors on both the Borough and County Councils I’ve been lobbying the Government for many years to provide funding to assist with the construction of a third river crossing in Great Yarmouth. I was delighted to hear the Chancellor of the Exchequer announce during his Budget that the project will receive £98.1 million from the Government.
Now the Transport Minister, Chris Grayling, has written to me confirming the details of the funding package. He highlighted how important it was that the work of myself as MP, working alongside councillors and local businesses, was in presenting a convincing case for investment. His letter also confirms the opportunities that the bridge will provide for Great Yarmouth constituency, creating thousands of jobs within the Enterprise Zone and encouraging further investment in offshore wind manufacturing.
This is a vote of confidence in Great Yarmouth. Like the Secretary of State, I look forward to supporting the project as it moves onto the next stage, and the realisation of everybody’s hard work when the bridge is completed
