Every year in the run-up to Bonfire Night constituents contact me with concerns about the anti-social use of fireworks, as well as the impact fireworks have on pets and other animals. The government has used existing legislation to restrict the sale of certain fireworks and limit their use to certain times of the year and at particular times. However, recent constituent correspondence suggests that there are still issues needing address or review, including specific neighbourhoods where the anti-social and dangerous use of fireworks is a problem. I am horrified about the recent incident when a firework was let off on a bus in Gorleston. It is fortunate that no one was seriously injured. Whilst, fortunately, incidents like that are rare, it is only right that politicians regularly review the effectiveness of existing laws and ask constituents for their feedback. I've submitted written questions to government ministers asking what assessment they have made about the effectiveness of these laws. And I've launched this quick survey asking constituents about their experience and views on this important matter.
