How often do we walk past an old building in Great Yarmouth without noticing it is there, not giving a piece of our heritage a second thought? Or maybe we notice that it looks neglected and worse for wear, shaking our head in dismay as we pass.
There seems to be a renaissance in the town, as the council moves forward with regeneration plans supported by funding from central government and other sources. We’ve already seen the excellent restoration of the Venetian Waterways. And now the iconic Winter Gardens has moved a step closer towards receiving funding from the National Lottery. Getting into the final twelve being considered for funding is a big achievement. The council has a clear plan that would see the repair and revival of this nationally important building so that future generations can continue to enjoy a unique piece of Britain’s seaside heritage. I am fully behind them and I hope the town as a whole is as well.
