As MP, I am privileged to meet so many talented young people across the Great Yarmouth constituency. Did you know we have a world karate kumite champion, who is only 16 years old and comes from Gorleston? Gerard Knight recently competed in the World Martial Arts Games in Daytona Beach in Florida, coming home with medals and his world title. He has now qualified for the European World Championships in London next year and is looking for sponsorship to assist his sporting efforts and his campaign to win more medals for England.
Gerard is an inspiration and passionate about the sport. In his own words, this is why he does it.
“I have trained in martial arts since I was 4 years old. I have ADHD which pushes me to work harder. I am a black belt. t wanted to learn how to defend myself, but over the years karate has given me much more than that. I love the sport. It's not just self-defence it's a way of life, it teaches self-confidence and patience.
“I have now qualified for the European World Championship Games in London next year along with many other big competitions where I need to defend my title and represent England again. Many teams will be there from around the world. I would take great pride in trying my hardest to win a medal for England.”
If you are interested in finding out more about this remarkable young man and either making a donation or providing sponsorship you can find out more on his Facebook or GoFundMe pages.
