Save Fritton Woods
I support the campaign run by the Parish Council and residents to protect Fritton Woods. Full details of the campaign can be found by clicking here. Campaigners have done an amazing job and garnered around 20,000 signatures so far.
We have lobbied Norfolk County Council and with support of Great Yarmouth Council the first application was defeated. A new application was lodged at the end of 2009 and the work continued to galvanise community support to stop the bulldozers destroying vital amenity woodland, used by so many residents from the urban areas of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
In April 2011, Norfolk County Council decided that Fritton Woods is unsuitable for quarry work and the woods were saved for future generations. There is still a small risk that the developers will appeal this during the next round of consultation, so the local community remains on alert. It’s a great victory for the Parish Council, chaired by Keith Nunn and the action group led by Jan Burton.
