Last week I visited Hopton Beach today to see for myself the emergency work taking place to improve the coastal defences in the area. I was joined by Cllr Barry Stone to take a look at the changing landscape of Hopton.
I was pleased to see the large scale of work taking place to better protect Hopton Beach. This work is, however, only an emergency measure to prevent the increasing problem of coastal erosion in the area. I am working with local residents and businesses to press Great Yarmouth Borough Council for a thorough plan to protect property and landscape up and down the coast. Time is running out for residents, whose property stands at risk of falling into the sea. I shall continue to push the Council to work with the Environment Agency to form a comprehensive long-term plan for Hopton.
