Earlier this month, I gave the Roads Minister, Robert Goodwill MP, a tour of the Acle Straight.
Meeting at the James Paget Hospital to discuss the A12 link road to Lowestoft, we picked up Broadland MP Keith Simpson at the bottom of the A47. We then travelled up the Acle Straight, finishing at Acle.
During the tour, we impressed upon Mr Goodwill the importance of improvements to the road, which would bolster the economic potential of the area and attract greater private investment.
The Minister was also made aware of the safety issues that plague the stretch of road. The combination of being single carriageway, the lack of slip roads and the proximity of the dykes too often lead to accidents and fatalities.
I was very pleased to have the opportunity to show Mr Goodwill the A47 and impress upon him just how important improvements are to the safety and economic prosperity of our area. We have run a concerted campaign for improvements to the A47 and we are closer than ever to success. I shall keep up the pressure on the Department for Transport to secure the changes we need.
