Supporting parents

Becoming a parent is a huge responsibility. Bringing another life into this world is one of the most amazing things that a person can take on, but as parents across the country will know, it is also one of the hardest.

Even though there is no model of the perfect parents, we all want to do what is best for our children and raise them to be healthy and happy. With so many parenting books, articles and blogs it can be hard to know where to go, or even where to start.

The Government wants to support parents which is why are:

Making sure parents get the information they need.
We have launched the new NHS Information Service which will send relevant, useful, NHS approved advice directly to
phones and inboxes of mums and dads to be.

Improving maternity care.

We are making sure that women will have one named midwife who will oversee their care during pregnancy and after they have had their baby.

Piloting parenting classes.

In three trial areas – Middlesbrough, High Peak in Derbyshire and Camden in London – parentswill be able to use vouchers, available from Boots stores, children’s centres and health visitors to pay for parenting classes.
