Protecting places where people play

A massive £10 million fund to protect playing fields launched today, with the backing of the National Lottery and Sport England. Aimed at improving and protecting sports playing fields across the country the cash-pot will help community groups bring disused playing fields back onto use, buy new land or improve the condition of existing pitches.

Our playing fields are a vital part of our society. They often provide the first experience of sport for youngsters, whether it’s a quick kick around after school, an ad-hoc cricket match during the summer holidays or something more organised. I know how popular the playing fields near my home in Hemsby are, they always seem to have people playing on them whenever I pass by. I am sure there are groups across the Great Yarmouth constituency that will want to apply to this fund, they can find out more at the Sport England website and if they need further advice by contacting my constituency office.
