I have welcomed the news that the number of people claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance has fallen 35% since August last year.
The number of people claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance last month was 1894, down from 2924 in August 2013.
This is just another month of good employment figures for Great Yarmouth. Businesses are feeling the confidence they need to expand and take on more people. These are not just numbers on a page: every person who is finding work and coming off benefits is another person taking home money for their family and paying into the local economy.
There is, of course, more work to do. I am holding a Jobs Fair at Great Yarmouth Racecourse on 10th October. Residents who wish to find out more about the local job market, or brush up on their job hunting skills are more than welcome to come along and meet some of the fantastic businesses we have in and around Great Yarmouth.
