Great Yarmouth to receive £600,000 jobs boost

My boss, Eric Pickles, has today announced that Great Yarmouth is to be awarded £600,000 from the Coastal Communities Fund.  I, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, businesses and residents have been campaigning for this money since 2011.  Today marks the success of that campaign.

The money will be used to create new, sustainable jobs by improving skills in the area and then matching those skills to local job opportunities.  It will allow resident-led social enterprises to create jobs through improving training.  It is estimated that the money will help to create two hundred new businesses and around 300 jobs.  This money is for the first year of the fund, if the scheme proves to be a success then Great Yarmouth can look forward to more funding in the future.

I was absolutely delighted to hear that Great Yarmouth Borough Council has been successful in its application for money from the Coastal Communities Fund.  I have worked alongside the council to secure this money and I am very pleased that local people will be getting extra help to learn invaluable skills, bolstering employment in our area and building a secure future for Great Yarmouth’s people and economy.
