Yesterday, my department announced a change in planning law to allow flags of all varieties to be flown around the country.
The flags that can now be flown include: The flag of any island, county, district, borough, burgh, parish, city, town or village within the United Kingdom. The flag of the Black Country, East Anglia, Wessex, any Part of Lincolnshire, any Riding of Yorkshire or any historic county within the United Kingdom.
Following the surge in interest in flying flags following the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics, the government has recognised that way that local and national flags can bring people together to display their pride for their local area. I am looking forward to seeing our local flags displayed with pride across Great Yarmouth!
