The debate in the House of Commons, on fuel prices, was an opportunity to highlight how high fuel prices are impacting on economic growth. Intervening during the debate, I explained how many companies in Great Yarmouth were reluctant to expand their businesses due to their fears about spiralling fuel prices.
In Great Yarmouth, I know of several companies with the financial capital and the will to expand, but who are wary of making a commitment. This will be further undermined by another sudden surge in the price of fuel. The Government has already taken steps to ensure that fuel price increases are held back; however it needs to be prepared to take radical action to ensure that this uncertainty does not prevent growth.
