Volunteers met on Saturday at St Andrews Church Hall to help pack care boxes for troops on the frontline in Afghanistan. I organised the event through the charity Support Our Soldiers. I had previously supported the charity, who organise the shipping of care packages out to soldiers, at Party Conference last year and wanted to bring the operation to Great Yarmouth.
I was delighted by the enthusiasm of all those who volunteered on the day, with everyone staying for the whole session. I would also like to say a big thank you to all the supermarkets and residents who gave very generously indeed – we have received so many donations that we have had to order more boxes!
Our armed forces work hard and risk everything on our behalf. Events like today are a chance for us to give something back, say thank you and let them know that we appreciate everything that they do.
