About Brandon Lewis
Brandon was elected as Member of Parliament for the Great Yarmouth constituency at the May 2010 General Election, taking the seat from the Labour Party with a swing of 8.7% achieving a majority of 4,276.
In Parliament Brandon is a member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee and the Regulatory Reform Committee.
Not being a career politician means that Brandon brings different skills to the House of Commons. As a company director he has a wealth of experience in the business world and he fully understands the challenges facing small businesses and the burdens placed upon them by government.
Professionally, Brandon originally qualified as a barrister and has a BSc Economics and LLB Hons (Law) from the University of Buckingham and a LLM (Merit) in Commercial Law from King’s College London.
Married with two children, Brandon relaxes by enjoying a variety of sports and taking time out to read or going to the theatre and cinema. Always ready to take a personal challenge he completed the London Marathon in 2005 and 2008 and took up triathlon in 2011, taking part in 4 multi sport events this year.
Throughout the Great Yarmouth constituency, Brandon is recognised as a formidable campaigner highlighting a wide range of local issues. He has taken this campaigning stance into Parliament where he regularly questions ministers on matters relating to his constituency and uses every opportunity to raise the profile of the Great Yarmouth area.
He is an active member of a number of All Party Parliamentary Groups including, those for Local Government, Greyhound Racing (currently vice-chairman) and the Film group (currently Secretary). He is Co-Chair of a group on Coastal Erosion and is working with colleagues who represent other coastal towns to highlight common issues in their constituencies. He is also working to form a group which will focus on Enterprise Zones.
